Energy Constrained Signal Processing, Communications, and NetworkingOrganizers: Qing Zhao, University of California at Davis; Lang Tong, Cornell UniversityThe design of large-scale energy constrained network and system requires a multidisciplinary approach, and signal processing plays a critical role in achieving a unifying theory to guide a principled design of energy constrained wireless infrastructure. No longer can network layers be designed in isolation, and the role of signal processing be relegated to the two ends of the protocol stack -- establishing and maintaining links at the physical layer and efficient representation of information sources at the application layer. The purpose of this special session is to bring together leading experts from various disciplines to explore the impact of signal processing on the overall network design. It will facilitate interaction among researchers with diverse background and interests and provide a timely forum for challenges and advances in energy constrained signal processing, communications, and networking. Topics covered in the proposed special session span energy efficient device design, sophisticated signal processing algorithms, as well as scheduling and routing protocols.
